Buffalo's Legacy of Power and Might
History was not Mike Rizzo's original forte. His interest in history did not begin until he bought a circa 1893 home in Buffalo and began researching the history of the building and its owners. From this his eyes opened and he began writing about local history and historical topics.
Mike studied computers and spent 13 years in that field before starting Zippy Delivery Bicycle Messengers in 2001, the first bicycle messenger service in Buffalo in 50 years. He worked as a full-time bike messenger until he sold the company in 2007.
He then started The Mob Tours, a sightseeing company devoted to telling the tales of old mafia, gangsters, and crime from the Buffalo area. He has written about old houses, political figures, and retailing in Buffalo. His book "Nine Nine Eight" was a surprise hit, selling thousands of copies.
His community work includes being a co-founder of Grant-Ferry Association, Inc., sitting on non-profit boards, and starting a bicycle/pedestrian advocacy organization while working as a messenger. He was born and raised in Western New York and has lived in the area all his life.
